“Good memories are unforgettable”. I have lived good and bad situations in my whole life. But the greatest ones will be stuck on my head forever. As human beings we have this ability. Furthermore, it is part of our essence. As I grew up I have been storing all these especial moments in my mind and heart and I feel really ecstatic whenever I remember them.
A great memory is when I turned fifteen years old. This is one of the greatest moments in my life because my parents went to my country after six years to celebrate it. They arrived just my birthday’s day and it was a surprised. There where all my family together, best friends and close friends and everything was so cool. But I didn’t know they were there. When the traditional celebration got started and everyone was standing up, waiting for me to come in, my parents walked in and bumped into me. This was most fantastic and exciting experience. Besides this, I felt thrill of being with my parents again in this especial day. To me the most important thing was to spend time with them, tell them how much I missed and love them.
After many years of being living without my parents, finally my brothers and I got the permission to come to the US and this was another joyful time. We always wanted to live with them like a family. But unfortunately we were fell apart for years. Then after eight years we finally came to this country. Everything was different because we recovered the time we lost during all those years. Nowadays we get along very well to each other. My parents feel so satisfied that finally they achieved what they wanted by heart for years.
Besides these personal feelings I also got so happy with my brother’s son birth. I went to my country last year just to see him. I was one of the people who lived this moment very close because I recorded the whole labor process. This was a great experience. I have never been in such a situation and I felt moved and nervous by this experience. It is different when you see it on the TV but seeing it personally its way too amazing. The first reason is because it was my brother’s son and of course no one knows whether going to be complications or not and the second reason because I have never seen such incisions until that day. Hopefully everything worked excellent and my nephew was delivery healthy.
All thins moments have remarked my life. If I had to mention the best moments of my life one day to anyone, I would tell that these are them. My immense happiness is surrounded by these memories.

How music has affected in my L!fe

Music and books are like my best friends. My life is a box of secrets for all those who don’t know me very well except for my family and friends. Some people don’t like music, but others do. I am in the group who likes it. I identify strongly with music, especially with romantic songs. Sometimes I think that music could be like a rainbow after a pouring rain and books can be like a guide for life. All the thoughts I have had been influenced by both.
Listening to ballads has influenced in my circle of friends. All the friends I have made like the same style music as me. We spend hours and hours just talking about new hits, usually on weekends. One thing that happens to me almost all the time is that when I meet new people, I am not quite open to initiate or hold a conversation. However, I discovered for my own good that talking about music could at least help me not to show my shyness. This makes me feel more comfortable at times when I hang out at some friend’s party. That is how I formed my group of close friends. My friends and I like the singer Enrique Iglesias. We like all his Spanish songs and English songs as well. They are very touching and romantic. For example the song everyone in my group loves is “Somebody is me”, which one of my friends sings very well. We all enjoy singing and playing instruments. Some others help with the harmony and I play the guitar. Most of my friends and I have this in common.

Making friends with my same taste in music has been fantastic; however, listening to music has also helped me so much during my education until now or when I am feeling really sad or angry. I have the habit of studying with music on, especially my favorite songs. Believe it or not, to me this is really helpful. I cannot concentrate very well without listening to music. Once I decided to quit my habit but my grades suffered, I don’t how, but it happened. It is kind of weird, though. For example, now I am writing my essay listening ballads, and as I listen to my songs, writing seems easier. One more thing about music is that when I feel sad or angry for any reason, I turn my IPod on and all the mix feelings that are on me just fade away, turning me into the real me again. I don’t know if it is heritage but my great grandmother used to do the same. That’s what my aunts and uncles tell me all the time.
Not only has music marked my life but so have books. it has been since my childhood until now. For me books are the best guide, especially medicine books. I come from Peru; up there I have many books about medicine because most people in my family have medical careers. The fact of growing up with medicine environment creates me an intense interest in these books. This although made me become in a mature girl at my short age. My teacher used to tell my grandfather that the way I thought was not properly for a seven or eight year old girl. Whenever I had a science or biology class, I used to talk incessantly and no one could stop me. Even though sometimes I could not understand some medical terms, I asked my uncles and aunts to explain me everything with all details. It is somewhat funny because at the age kids usually ask many questions, good and silly questions, though. I, however since then have been reading different medical books and this made me decide to go for a medical career, I enjoyed intense study in my country during my full four years in University. I hope to continue my studies in this country. This is my big and priority life’s ambition.
In short, both music and books had influenced my live somehow. My collections of books are part of me and music part of my life. Listening to romantic songs made me softer and calmer on different stages of my life and my books helped me in my personal life as well.

"Censorship"

CENSORSHIP IN ARTS
Some countries rule their nations more strictly than others to keep their society safe. One measurement of safety is “Censorship”, which is a tactic that each government of different countries over the world employs to limit information. Sometimes this information might be a risk for society, which is why politicians think it must be forbidden or strictly controlled. Nowadays, we can observe that this ban is applied to the arts in places such us Turkey, Colombia and even in the US. Censoring some information has advantages and disadvantages. I think it is correct to censor something when it is considered harmful for our communities such as pornography, specifically child pornography, military missions, or to eschew hard feelings about religion. However, I don’t agree when these rules exaggerate on being applied in some cases. Before removing or stopping producing some sort of art, there should be a reasonable and an objective justification. I have researched three problems of some countries, including the US, in which censorship was applied overboard.
A totally outrageous case of censorship happened in Turkey. A man whose name is Faut Talay was accused of terrorism. He started to sing and to broadcast a TV program about Kurdish folk music with two more friends, the government thought that the purpose of this TV show was to persuade people to be against of Turkey. These songs were about political Kurdish which at that moment weren’t allowed to be heard in his country. This uncomfortable situation among Turkish and Kurdish citizens occurred because of disagreements of territory issues. All the lyrics explained how bad the management of the Turkish government was. Obviously Faut Talay was asked to stop producing both music and TV show. Authorities didn’t like what were the songs about. However a significant group of people felt moved by and enjoyed the performances. Mr. Talay became popular in Turkey and was arrested many times. Finally he was sentenced to twelve years in prison. Since then he has had to live abroad in order to not get arrested and put imprisoned. In my personal opinion, this is an aberration. The Turkish government of this country should not take Mr. Talay as a terrorist just because of the lyrics. This is a violation of human rights and if this singer didn’t show behavior of a rebel then there is no reason to arrest him.
Censorship is not only seen in Asia, but in South America as well. One example of prohibition took place in Copacabana-Colombia, October 2008 by the Columbian government. An unnamed band couldn’t release its CD. This was a rapper group. The tracks got suddenly stolen for no apparent reason. According to some speculations, the new government was involved because the lyrics of their song were related with the gritty reality of this country and at that time a new president just gets elected. I would infer that this was stolen because they would incite Columbians antigovernment sentiment. The members of this band were put in prison in June. As we know, there are many political problems which are worse as the time passes. I don’t agree with the censorship or imprisonment. People should not arrest for lyrics against the government or for describing the reality. These singers just expressed what they felt and there is no crime for freedom of speech. Unfortunately that’s how the politic works in Colombia.
A last shocking example is found in the US. It was a song of the famous singer Michel Jackson. Some lyrics of the song “They don’t care about us” were removed in June 22, 1995 to prevent making Jewish people feel offended. Those unspeakable words were: “Jew me, Kike me.” Jewish people took this song seriously as a racist song. Even though Mr. Jackson didn’t mean his song to be racist, people thought those words had a violent and harmful meaning. When this song came out, the Jewish community felt they needed ban it or at least modify some hateful and unpleasant lyrics of the song. However, a director said there was nothing to feel hurt about those words. He explained that certain people don’t have problems using the word “nigger.” Michel Jackson thought those words wouldn’t have contradictory effects on people either. After this problematic event, the modification was done and the song continued on radios and on TV which means it wasn’t totally censored after all. I think, if we have the freedom of speech then isn’t this suppose to be suppressed? For example, we see the word “nigger” a lot t in many songs, but does society care if it is offensive? Not really. Some people must feel offended but others not. What I really mean is that I disagree with the idea of changing Mr. Jackson’s lyrics. If people feel offended for these words, and want them to be changed then all slangs word in songs must be erased off. There should be equality and not preferences.
I believe that censorship limits the access to develop people’s opportunities in their lives. All these examples I have mentioned are real facts. Some of them were over exaggerated on its application, but we hope that respective governments would only censor something when it prevents a physical threat to society and not exceed on the process. In my opinion, all this idea of censorship has been really drastic in many cases and does not allow society to decide for itself what is good or bad.
